Knowledge Engineering without Knowledge Elicitation

چکیده
This paper describes the building of an application for advising on the identiication and rectiication of problems in \hole-in-the-wall" machines. Although the diagnosis that the system carries out is comparatively simple, it is worthy of note both for its size and for the unusual approach taken to the knowledge acquisition process. This was based around experts working alone to ll in on-line \forms", or templates, and subsequently reviewing decision trees derived from them.

The Role of Domain Knowledge in Requirements Elicitation: an Exploratory Study
Requirements elicitation is the first activity in the requirements engineering process. It includes learning, surfacing and discovering the requirements of the stakeholders of the developed system. The elicitation process involves actors of different roles, backgrounds and domain knowledge. Therefore, it is a communication-intensive process. Overcoming communication barriers between analysts an...
متن کاملKnowledge Elicitation for Design Task Sequencing Knowledge
There are many types of knowledge involved in producing a design (the process of specifying a description of an artifact that satisfies a collection of constraints [Brown, 1992]). Of these, one of the most crucial is the design plan: the sequence of steps taken to create the design (or a portion of the design). A number of knowledge elicitation methods can be used to obtain this knowledge from ...
متن کاملKnowledge Elicitation
Introduction Knowledge elicitation consists of a set of techniques and methods that attempt to elicit the knowledge of a domain expert1, typically through some form of direct interaction with the expert. Knowledge elicitation is a sub-process of knowledge acquisition (which deals with the acquisition or capture of knowledge from any source), and knowledge acquisition is, in turn, a sub-process ...
متن کاملKnowledge Elicitation Techniques in a Knowledge Management Context
Purpose – A significant part of knowledge and experience in an organization belongs not to the organization itself, but to the individuals it employs. Therefore, knowledge management (KM) tasks should include eliciting knowledge from knowledgeable individuals. The paper aims to argue that the current palette of methods proposed for this in KM discourse is limited by idealistic assumptions about...
متن کاملKnowledge engineering and psychology: Towards a closer relationship
Knowledge engineering projects deal with a wide range of domains within organizational and academic contexts. A number of elicitation techniques are used to acquire knowledge from experts. Most of these techniques originated within psychology but have been developed by knowledge engineers to become more structured, efficient and systematic. Until now, nobody has tried to re-apply these modified...
